Will smartphones replace your wallet?

I hope we don't go down this path. If I were to lose my phone, I would be vulnerable to losses to someone who has my phone or helpless to do anything with everything in it. Phones are nice, even the "smart" ones, but to rely upon it to do everything is too much. The advent of credit card retailer posts that read a card by just waving it nearby could be a problem as well. It almost seems as though for our rush for simplicity we are making ourselves more open to theft and fraud. I saw a TV consumer watch program from a Memphis TV station, if I remember correctly, where they went to a mall and with the person's permission wanded the guy's wallet or the lady's purse and were able to get thier credit card numbers without even touching the wallet or purse. Too much dependence on technology.
Even in today's world it happens. My daughter had to get a new debit card and was having trouble getting it activated, it was useless to her. She had inadvertantly left her driver's license at a retailer when she returned an item and they failed to return it to her at the time of the transaction. She was unable to get cash without her license, or her debit card. She is back on track now, but it shows how much we depend on our technology now, and how it can get much worse with our use of a phone to take care of everything.

people lose their wallets too...if theres cash in it theres a big change they wont get it back. with a phone you can just get a new one. same thing with debit cards. you can report that lost to make the money unavailable to whomever finds it. cash you cant so much. I don't think it matters much. Just sayin....
