>> Shopping can be exhausting. Clipping coupons, trying to find a helpful salesperson, and going from store to store to get a good deal. But in the future, finding exactly what you want and at the right price may be just a few smart phone clicks away.

>> Every shopper is looking for one thing, a bargain. And new mobile applications are trying to deliver. Milo is blurring the boundary between online and offline stores.
>> It takes the best of the Internet, the research pieces, the reviews, the ability to look at a vast array of products and product information, and make a good decision about what to buy, but then connects you with the local store, and tells you here are the products that are in stock right now.
>> Users enter the name of the item they want, and the app lists the shops nearby that carry it. How? Similar to the way travel sites check airline inventory to find available seats, Milo works thanks to software that lives within the retailer's inventory system.
>> We're actually doing a query into those inventory systems, and telling you as of this exact moment what's in stock, what's not in stock, what just sold out, and who has the best price.

>> Other applications encourage browsing. shopkick gives users reward points just for walking into a store. Additional points are earned by scanning barcodes of specific products. The points can be redeemed for gift cards, movie tickets, or other rewards.
>> It's the beginning of a dialog in the store.
>> The developers realize that customer interaction needed to start before checkout, when most shoppers are about to leave. So they created a device that senses when users enter the store.
>> It is a small box that is mounted in the store right at the entrance. And that box emits an inaudible audio signal, but the microphone of the cell phone can pick it up. And inside the signal is a unique code embedded that is different for each store.
>> shopkick hopes that in the future it will be able to use the signal to determine precisely where users are within the store. So if you're in the shoe department, you may get a special offer on boots.
Background Music
>> But what about when you're not in a store. Perhaps you're watching a music video. Clickthrough creates interactive videos that let you click items, a singer's dress, a cell phone, or a car, to learn more, including where it's sold. The future of shopping. A high tech way to browse and buy. For SmartPlanet, I'm Sumi Das.
