Ask any dog owner - there's nothing they wouldn't do for their precious pets? SmartPlanet's Sumi Das shares an LED-powered collar that helps keep your pup safe at night. Not convinced? Let's just say it's also used in the Iditarod and by police canine units in Germany.

LED collar
Yes, but is it a breakaway collar?
Talk is cheap
I'd also want to see what type of power requirements and a demonstration of how how easy (or not) it is to change the battery(ies).
Oh, and I agree 100% about the breakaway feature. As far as I'm concerned, non-breakaway collars should be discontinued and banned as inhumane.
On a humorous side... let's find a way to safely attached and LED to the tip of the animal's tail... maybe even power it off the natural wagging and waving motions. : )

>> Sumi Das: Hello everyone, and welcome to Sumi Smart Picks. I'm Sumi Das, and each week, I'll tell you about a clever product that in one way or another helps us live cleaner, greener lives. This week, my pick is the Glow Doggie LED dog collar. Why do we love LED's? Well, they're energy efficient, they last longer than traditional bulbs, and they're not as fragile as traditional bulbs. Now we actually have a special model for today's Sumi Smart Pick. Meet Megan. Megan is a rescue dog from Muttville dot org, -
>>
Jane: That's right -
>> Sumi Das: And this Jane. Jane is fostering Megan at the moment. So this is a smaller collar. They do come in different sizes, and she's wearing pink, which is a fabulous color on her. crosstalk Tell me what you thought of this collar.
>>
Jane: I was very skeptical at first, but you know, a, a friend of mine saw it who lives in the country and thought it would be ideal when her dog goes running by herself. And it's, you know, no heat. It's an LED. So actually I, I see the point.
>> Sumi Das: I do feel like this is sort of for the pampered pooch. Obviously, it's not an essential if you own a dog, but it's kind of for the dog who leads a more rugged lifestyle I would say because it is waterproof. You can take him to the beach -
>>
Jane: No, that's right.
>> Sumi Das: You can take him to the lake.
>>
Jane: Yes.
>> Sumi Das: The only drawback that I do see is that this is not going to replace your typical dog collar because you can't put a leash on it.
>>
Jane: Yes.
>> Sumi Das: Now, you definitely need a leash if you're a dog owner -
>>
Jane: Yeah, but I found it very easy to put her regular collar next to this one and attach the leash to that. And it looks so pretty.
>> Sumi Das: laughs Oh, Megan. You're so fashionable with your Glow Doggie collar. That's my pick for this week - the Glow Doggie LED collar. Check back next week for more.
