>> Sumi: Hello everyone and welcome to the Sumi Smart Picks. I'm Sumi Das and each week I'll tell you about a clever product that in one way or another helps us live cleaner greener lives. My pick this week the Delight Solar Light and Mobile Charger S250. Solar LED lamps like these are designed to be a better alternative to the millions of kerosene lamps that are used in countries where electricity is either unavailable or unreliable. Kerosene cannot only cause devastating fires when burned it omits harmful fumes that can cause a range of respiratory illnesses ranging from asthma to lung cancer. This is pretty easy to use here's the solar panel that's included you plug it into the side here and set this out into direct sunlight for a full day to charge it up. There are 4 different light settings there's a night light, low, medium, and high. On a full charge on the highest setting you'll only get about 4 hours of light but on the night light setting you can get up to 100 hours. You can also charge your mobile phone with the connectors and cables that are provided. The only disadvantage is that this is a bit expensive. At $45.00 that's rather steep for a family that only earns a few dollars a day, but Delight does make other cheaper models. In fact, they've just introduced a design that is specifically intended to be a student study lamp and that only costs $8.00 a day. The company is also encouraging donations so that they can provide these lanterns to more people in places like Asia and Africa so that they can have a safe and clean source of light. So here in California though we don't really have a problem with electricity but we do have an issue with earthquakes so I'm planning on putting these in my emergency kit. That's my pick for this week. The Delight Solar Light and Mobile Charger S250. Check back next week for more.
