Robotic pharmacy: Machines process meds, improve safety

Good News: It's going to make pharmacists more productive.

Bad News: It's going to make pharmacists more productive (yes
the same as the good news), but higher productivity means
fewer jobs.

Good News: This will enable pharmacists to take on more
valuable roles like offering consultation and screening services
that today are only available by nurse in a physicians office. This
could save patients money.

Good News: This will serve as a precursor to robotic pharmacies
that can compound custom medications, supplements and
personalized genetic therapies for patients in an efficient and
cost effective manner.

The problem is that pharmacists don't prescribe meds. Nurse Practitioners and M.D.'s do. If a M.D. or N.P. doesn't know enough about a medication, he/she should not be allowed to prescribe. In fact, this robot would work better to do the repetitive tasks a pharmacist does. The pharmacist should be able to prescribe medication. Especially if it is medication that the patient uses regularly. This would free up M.D.'s from writing prescriptions and making mistakes. This would mean less visits to the doctor for refilling of medication, and thus lower costs. If we were not part of a very moronic society, this would be reality.
