Fantastic stuff
Amazing what can be done with just a digital camera!

3D printing has sure come a long way in the last few years, and I look forward to the time when it is accessible to almost everyone (it would be nice if I didn't have to throw out my 15 year old large-format copier just because I can't get a couple of small plastic parts for it anymore).

~grins~ I'll admit that I was jealous when a few of my colleagues got 3d printers for Christmas, maybe if I'm good, Santa will bring me one next year.

The only 'new' part of this...
... is that Adobe is selling software--you've been able to do this via website for several years now...it raises questions.

Do you 'own' the rights to your body features and shapes?

Other IP rights become fuzzy too.

And this is merely the very beginning of our ability to copy, edit and produce objects rapidly and relatively inexpensively....

Tastable carbon
Iam thinking . . . this is amazing - we can use a type of carbon as the base copy material - and today we have a taste ability additive which can be added to any material ie candy or mintlike mater - thus creating a carbon material one could save on disc as a 'dietart' for a future use as a food supplement hmmm

Some went one better...
Take a look at candyfab.org

This is a machine designed and built by some enterprising individuals that can print complex 3D shapes from pure sugar using sliced 3d wireframes.

All it does is melt a layer of sugar according to the shape needed, which is then buried under a layer of fresh sugar and melted... and so on.

Its now several years old and is quite a refined project.

Math models of 3D objects
The mathematical models can be generated with 3DPlot, tested now the 123D Make cardboard workflow - http://budweiser.cadstudio.cz/2012/02/materialized-mathematics-print-math.html

what ......??
Sorry to say but I can't get beyond a word or three before I have no idea what you're saying - English is obviously not your home language as it is not mine!

Even with my ability to take accent heavy mangled English, (as spoken by my older family members) & 'translate' it into a more coherent English for visiting friends - I get a headache & a funny feeling that I have either exited or entered a parallel inverse (perhaps both at the same instant) when reading your comment above.

I say this without any malice but rather as a 'heads-up" to let you know I have no idea what you were tring to say.

>> Sumi Das: Creating a 3-D image is a snap -- a camera snap that is. Autodesk recently unveiled two free pieces of software -- 123D Catch and 123D Make, that let people create 3-D objects from photos, and print out cardboard templates.

>> I've taken this -- this -- the little garden Buddha -- there's a little garden statue. And I've -- I've wandered around it with -- with the camera -- a point and shoot camera, and I've started taking pictures of it. So you just need to select the images that you would like to create a 3-D object, and you upload 'em to the cloud.

>> Sumi Das: That's where Autodesk software goes to work, trying to determine the camera angle of each photo, and assembling them in the cloud. It creates a 3D model out of all of those images.

>> So what I've received back from -- from the cloud -- from the 123D Catch cloud is -- is basically a 3DP file, which is a small reference file that contains all the information that I need for the textures to be placed on a 3D wire frame model.

>> Sumi Das: So you could send this image to a 3D printer, or make it yourself out of cardboard with 123D Make.

>> We've brought in the model, and we're basically saying we would like to slice this model. And it -- it comes up in -- in -- in slices. The laser cutter cut those out just almost like writing like -- like a -- just like a 2D print. This cuts just vectors out of a cardboard.

>> Sumi Das: 3D printing is generating a lot of buzz. Bartel phonetic says the technology is a disruptor.

>> So I -- I can see anything in there from -- from an educational purpose of putting say a 3D math -- mathematical model in -- into 123D Make, and then really touch math by making a cardboard model out of it.

>> Sumi Das: But not everything can be captured in 3D.

>> If you start taking pictures of a white wall or so, something that doesn't really have textures, then it gets difficult.

>> Sumi Das: But for enthusiasts, turning 2D into 3D just got a whole lot more accessible. For Smart Planet, I'm Sumi Das.
