I love the concept, but I hate the execution. They should have worked towards making the camera more like a normal one...holding a camera shaped like that will be so awkward.
Also, built-in storage and no option to expand? What the hell? This camera is one giant step forwards and several smaller steps back...I just don't understand what they're getting at with it.
Inside the Lytro camera, and the start-up's 3D future
December 12, 2011 | Length: 00:02:55
SmartPlanet meets Ren Ng, founder of Silicon Valley start-up Lytro, to see how it's re-imagining the digital camera with its patented light-field photography technology. We also talk to Ng about his future plans, including the ability for users to capture images that are more three-dimensional.

Cool but then what?
Agreed it's a breakthrough technology. Practical use for general public? I don't really see it yet. May be a small niche here and there. The stand alone camera brands are loosing ground for mobile cameras. In that environment, I seriously hope it won't end up like a toy.

Form-Factor
We're talking semantics here. Simply add a pistol grip, include a SD slot and maybe a mini-HDMI connecton in the handle (for remote viewing/previewing?) Design must bend to not only function, but also to the demands of the buying public. Perhaps some later version will revisit this shortfall

Seems gimmicky
I've noticed there's not one single Lytro photo posted that shows the entire image in focus. Why? As a photographer, do I really want people to refocus my work? Can they really produce a stereoscopic image from this camera, or are we going to get more half-implemented stuff like being moved at different rates? Seems very much like an expensive gimmick to me.

Lytro Camera
I wonder what the security camera advantages might be. The ability to focus on license plates, hand gestures, facial expressions and so on mmmm very interesting
