Honda rolls out new natural-gas-powered Civic
November 14, 2011 | Length: 00:02:51
Electric vehicles and hybrids seem to have captured all the attention lately. But Honda believes natural-gas vehicles could be the future too. SmartPlanet's Sumi Das talks to Jay Guzowski, senior product planner with Honda, to discuss the company's plans to sell the natural-gas Civic nationwide and why Honda is placing bets on it.

Storage pressure
Presumably the natural gas is supplied and stored at high pressure, maybe in liquid form...is there any future intention of using ones own domestic supply as in the wartime years [UK], but compressed?

It's been done before.
I recall that about 30 years ago, CNG conversion units were sold and installed in Canada and used on standard taxicabs (and other vehicles).
CNG refueling stations were available in several areas of Montreal and Toronto (and possibly other cities).
I recall having a ride in one of the CNG fuelled taxis and did not notice any apparent difference in performance of the vehicle.
The driver indicated that he had no issues with it.
I can't recall why the usage stopped, but one of many scenarios come to mind.

All taxi cabs in Hong Kong run on Natural gas. And they are all Toyotas. So...no story here...

Do not remember brand, but Japan has had these for a while.
The taxis on Okinawa were LNG powered when I was there in 1987.
They were little 4 doors about the size of a 4 dr Sentra.

There is plenty of Oil
The entire mantra of energy conservation or SCARCITY of resources is going to finish off the economy.
The environmental socialist can live in mud huts and hold their breath every other minute, Oil is naturally occurring and it did not come from Dinosaurs nor is it 'running out'...
I guess next the ocean is drying up now, we must stop all shipping in the ocean it is a dire situation along with passing gas, it must stop now!

The only way things are going haywire now is the battle for which alternate fuel source will come out on top. Right now, everything is pretty much GASOLINE, along with Diesel, and how many have made the mistake of putting the wrong one in their car at some point? At least it's the same delivery method and infrastructure. So now you have Hydrogen, Natural Gas and Electricity to add, which all use different delivery methods and infrastructure. Everyone's environmental, but how many companies are going to dip into their BILLIONS in profits in order to build it? America can't even decide to build new railways because they're 'too expensive', and 'the old ones work well enough'. There's lots of people like 'Open_Source_User' out there, enough to keep the World running on it's petroleum resources until they ARE gone. It may still take decades, but it eventually WILL happen at some point.
I know it's open market, but waiting for the companies to battle over which alternative fuel will come out on top is self-defeating. They should pick the best one and throw all of their efforts into that...
