Bob Hart, the head chef at Yahoo, shows off the company's new food dehydrator. The contraption takes excess food and paper waste such as fish, herbs and napkins and converts it into fertilizer. The whole process takes about 18 hours from start to finish.

Can you do this with solar instead of electric power? I realize composting is difficult with large amounts of materials in the city, but it works great in my backyard. :)threadthing

I was going to say the same thing. This is great, but really ought to be solar.

>> Shiftbob Muse phonetic is a food dehydrator for excess food scraps.

>> We take food waste. We've got fish scraps, some herbs that weren't so nice, some herb trimmings. So we take it, we open up the top of the hopper, and we simply dump it in. Close it, and we hit the start button. So magically, 18 hours later, we'll end up with this. So it literally is dehydrating the food.
