The term "smart grid" refers to a conventional power grid with a layer of digital technology applied on top of it to monitor and control electrical transmission and distribution. Two-way digital communications equipment allows granular control of nodes on the grid, such as consumer appliances, to save energy, boost efficiency and increase reliability.
Ford and Microsoft announced on Wednesday that they are partnering on a web application, Hohm, that will help drivers monitor and manage recharging for their electric vehicles.
