The rapid growth of cities (and the study of them, urbanism) is among the most important topics in the 21st century. As globalization occurs, urban areas become nodes for innovation and economic growth. Essential to understanding them is an assessment of their geography, economies, politics, social characteristics and built environment, and the increased efficiency of these systems working together.
