>> You've probably have all seen smart traffic signals or at least traffic signals driven by LEDs. We save about a million dollars a year on LEDs instead of traditional lights in the city of San Jose. Well we started that in San Jose many years ago. What we're starting now is an effort to transform our 62,000 street lights into smart street lights. First LEDs, so lower energy consumption save us money. Second to collect information. Is there any reason why the lights have to be on all night? What if nobody is there? What if there's no traffic? What if there's no movement? What if you had a motion sensor that would control all the lights? What if you could network those lights to control and dim them rather than turn them completely off? Our neighbors have to have them turned off completely but you could dim them down and save them money. What if you were able to sense temperature and other things and if you could get that all together and collect it? What would you do with all that data? Well we don't know but we think it's a great idea and we're rolling out these smart street lights. We've got over 100 of them in place. Again we have some stimulus money that's coming to us we're going to use to do another 1000. We'll do the R and D, we'll figure out the prototype, working with Silicon Valley companies and then we'd like to get the price down where we could afford to buy 62,000 of them and think how many there will be across the country.
