SmartPlanet judgement A couple of years from now, electricity meters will probably be beaming power consumption data straight to our iPhones. Until then, monitors like the Eco-eye are a great way to track just how much power we're using -- and to instantly see the financial and environmental benefits of moving to a low-energy lifestyle.
A lovely little DAB radio alarm clock. Not the single most stylish radio we've ever seen but performs well and is priced perfectly. If you demand audio quality you should check out a model with two speakers, but most casual alarm clock users will find the Siesta delightful. Plus
With digital auto-scan, 30 presents, four wavebands, an alarm clock radio and a solar panel, the Summit is a fully featured radio even before you get to the unbeatable wind-up dynamo that will keep the music playing wherever you are in the world. You may well be able to get better standard multi-band radios for less, but few will be as satisfying to use, or as well built as this one.
If gauging your CO2 emissions is as important to you as tracking your electricity spending, this is the wireless energy monitor to buy. It's incredibly easy to install and operate -- and works especially well as a fit-and-forget gadget if you just want to be alerted when you're splurging power.
