Sony Bravia KDL-32V2000 Review

We like:

Low standby power usage; great design; advanced picture processing; stellar performance

We don't like:

High price; uses lots of power when on; only one HDMI connection; lack of response to our questions

SmartPlanet judgement:

If you switch off at the plug you won't care about this Bravia LCD TV's low power consumption on standby, but you will baulk at the high power usage when it's on. Although the superior picture quality almost makes up for it, we just can't shake the fact that it consumes so much and that Sony didn't tell us anything about its manufacturing.

Let's start with the good news. The Sony Bravia KDL-32V2000 TV uses only 0.3 watts when left on standby, which is excellent -- other TVs in the 32-inch category can use up to six watts when doing nothing. But even this tiny amount of energy use can be negated by switching off at the plug or using something like Bye Bye Standby. Continue reading...
