What you need to know: Eton FR350 Wind-up Radio
We like:
The fact you can top up your mobile; that you can get an hour of listening for just 30 seconds of winding
We don't like:
The plasticky build quality; the flimsy dynamo winder
SmartPlanet judgement:
The Eton FR350 is the Ray Mears of the radio world -- it's packed full of features aimed to help you deal with far-flung emergencies. You get a light, a siren and can charge your mobile using the hand crank, plus you can tune into all the radio stations you could ever need and listen for hours with just a quick spin of the hand-crank. It does feel plasticky but it'll take the knocks and keep you listening wherever you are.
