DIY Kyoto's Wattson employs a canny way of making electricity usage come to life -- it glows a dull blue when you're not using much, and lights up as a fiery red when using lotsa watts
Typical price £150

This is the first 'green' gadget that i have truely craved. It looks great and has made a real impact at home in under a week.

Its simple colour glow system easily shows you when your power consumption is going up prompting you to go and turn off any unused appliance. It has helped my girlfriend and I discover some rogue lights and appliances that were using a lot of power all the time. Our wireless router for example that we used to leave on 24/7, now only gets switched on when we are home.

Every morning before leaving the house, it becomes almost a competition to see how low you can get the usage. My best so far is 3W (so the unit itself cant always use 5W as stated). But to do this i had to turn off the clock on the cooker and my girlfriends alarm clock (something she wasn't too pleased about).

The only real drawback is the price. At £150. At 15% reduction it would take us over 3 years to save the cost of the Wattson.
