What you need to know: Southwaite Green Cottages

We like:
The setting; that ten per cent of profits is given to charity; that you get a ten per cent discount if you arrive by public transport
We don't like:
That the rooms aren't particularly full of character; that our heating didn't work properly one evening
SmartPlanet judgement:
The owner is clearly passionate about green living and we were impressed by the numerous eco-friendly gadgets and technologies she's incorporated into the design of the cottages in a way that didn't compromising on comfort. The rooms are somewhat bland -- a few touches of colour would add character -- but the farm is in a lovely remote position by the western fells and there are plenty of fabulous walks nearby.

We may have found heaven at the Zetter -- if only all city breaks could be this green
Bellinter House
It's a good green upgrade of an old classic, with only a few caveats

It's the perfect base for exploring a stunning stretch of the Pembrokeshire coast and eating delicious organic food
Tom's Place
This restaurant specialises in just one thing, and for the price it could be done better
Whitepod
A place for people who love being in the mountains, enjoy good food and appreciate an alternative to crowded ski resorts
