To be truly luxurious, Titanic needs to rethink its bistro and sharpen up its practices. The most blissful aromatherapy room loses its sparkle when there's a surly workman nearby, banging doors. It could do with some organic skincare, too. But what it does, it does well, and the building runs on impressively green terms.

Indulgent in more ways than one, conventionally run spas get through a lot of water and energy. Titanic, set in a converted Edwardian textile mill, makes a serious effort to tread lightly. Solar panels and a biomass generator provide energy, water comes untreated from a private borehole, cleaning products are as green as possible and the Otex laundry system runs on cold water, saving energy.
