SmartPlanet judgement:
It's great place for a short break in the country, and a 'learn about nature' holiday for the kids. We especially liked that despite the 16th century grandeur, Milden Hall didn't feel snobby. The homemade food and carbon-neutral stove added some eco points to the place, and activities on the surrounding estate kept us busy.

The Zetter
We may have found heaven at the Zetter -- if only all city breaks could be this green
Bellinter House
It's a good green upgrade of an old classic, with only a few caveats
TYF Eco Hotel
It's the perfect base for exploring a stunning stretch of the Pembrokeshire coast and eating delicious organic food
Tom's Place
This restaurant specialises in just one thing, and for the price it could be done better
Southwaite Green Cottages
The cottages are in a lovely setting in the western fells and the use of eco technologies is impressive but the rooms are somewhat bland
