What it is
Eco-conscious saving

What you need to know: Ecology Building Society Earthwise Individual Savings Account (ISA)

We like:
The tax-free interest; that it's easy to apply; the low minimum deposit; the clear conscience
We don't like:
The small print -- if you make more than one withdrawal a year, the rate you earn falls by one percentage point; can't make transfers and withdrawals online (yet)
SmartPlanet judgement:
Attractive rates are offered to anyone wanting to store or borrow money for an ecological project, which may be seen as high risk by more mainstream lenders. A lack of online access and a one per cent rate fall if you make more than one withdrawal in a year are less favourable features though.

It's a solid ethical fund for the green minded to slot their cash away for the long term
Norwich Union 'Green' ISA
There's a good range of ethical investments, but we wish the funds could be accessed without an independent financial advisor
American Express Red Credit Card
A generous sum may go to a good cause, provided you spend lots, but it would be wiser not to rely on credit for donations
Naturesave Home Insurance
Naturesave Home Insurance gives you good personal service and is admirably dedicated to creating environmental change
Co-op's Think Credit Card
Its clear ethical incentives put it ahead of rivals -- so if you must have a credit card, this is an eco-friendly choice
