Ok, so they're not going to save the world through organic or natural cosmetics. But as a midweight mainstream beauty company, Origins are flying a greener flag than many of their competitors.
Whether I am at ethical liberty to admit this or not, I am a fan. Their varient ranges of lotions and potions have always sold themselves to me on the basis of their natural ingredients. Animal and cruelty free products, no synthetic nasties and the absence of a whole list of chemicals and now an organic range for extra good measure. Sounds to me like pretty good green party.
So can I forgive them for a range comprising of products that are not 100% organic? Well, yes I can. The range is certified under the United States Department of Agriculture (purportedly the 1st full line of prestige skincare to do this) and awaiting certification from the Soil Association. My foaming face wash is very honest with me and clearly states it is 73% organic (the percentage of organic content varies between each product). The packaging itself is 50% FSC approved and 50% recycled. Their environmental policy and charitable giving are actually rather impressive.
And the face wash? In the world of face washes it is quite a star. I like it. It leaves my skin feeling clean but not paint stripper tight. A gentle gel that foams easily and doesn't sting the eyes. It's a bit pricier though, as anything with the word 'organic' stamped to it is. Whether or not I will buy it again or revert back to my 'regular' orgins option, I'll decide after I've finished the bottle (for £18 I want to see how long it lasts!)
