  Of course they are going to charge you! Electric is more expensive than fuel oil because it's a by product of the former and there's those enormous delivery charges. My electric bill is higher than my Natural Gas charges.

  Unless the pump charges very, very fast, I see problems.
  Stolen power cords or "siphoned" power to a neighboring car.
  
  Until they come up with an ultra fast power up, say by switching out
  the batteries and crediting for power still on the batteries, I don't
  see an electric car in my future. I live in an apartment building and
  there is no way for me to get it charged.

  For anyone thinking they are going Green with an electric car, think about where that electricity is coming from. So you think there is no more pollution from your car? Think again. It will now come out as extra pollution from the power station. As all the electric cars draw extra power it creates extra pollution.
  
  So NO your electric car is not Green at all, it just uses a different exhaust pipe now - the power station chimney.

  The electric vehicle is only a small part of the problem. Like bsit stated, electricity is generated at power plants. Most power plants are coal fired. We would still be a society being driven by burning things.
  
  However, unlike bsit, I think that electric cars can be PART of the solution. Just like cars today, there will need an infrastructure to support them. Just because electricity is currently generated in a fairly dirty manner, it does not mean that will always be the case. Complex systems are built a piece at a time. Electric cars are 1 part of the puzzle.
  
  Right now, there are a number of IV Generation Nuclear reactors being designed. Estimates are that there may be operating plants in early 2020s. There are other ways to generate electricity that can help.
  
  Before E-cars become viable Electricity storage methods need to improve. Lithium Ion batteries, in thier current form, are not the answer. I keep hoping EEStor isnt a hoax but that is my non-thinking rose future side that keeps that hope alive. The rest of my brain screams hoax.

  One other note, I still remember being a bratty kid. I cant tell you how much fun I would have had screwing with all those electric cables.
  
  I also wonder how many cables I would end up ripping out of the side of my car before I started to remember to un-plug. There would beed to be a break away cord and an alarm light to tell me I just drove off without my charging cord

  I agree in that using electric cars at the moment will replace burning oil aht the car with burning it at the energy facility.
  Nevertheless, I also agree that electric vehicles are part of the solution, specially if you consider it in terms of a process of change, where many actors are involved.
  What I mean is that there is not one solution but one trend that has to be be strenghtened... and that is to be concious about choosing cleaner solutions...
  That can push the government as a while towards cleaner generation solutions.
  If you consider that on 2008 80% of the energy generation facilities built where based on wind energy, then we can begin to see that on the other side of the problem there is also a trend... and if both parties (supply and demand) tend to the same goal, then that change can be possible in a progressive way.

  For over 18 years I drove back and forth to work in Silicon Valley (San Francisco/San Jose/Bay Area). Often bumper to bumper thinking wouldn?t it be nice if they put sensors within the barriers along the inside of the freeways that smart cars could use to determine position, location (GPS), and to actually and safely drive the car too.
  
  Like wake me up when the car is near my off ramp (close to work or home)!
  
  And how about using nuclear power to also move electric cars via these barriers? Gets you there then your car is all charged up for the last 40 or 50 miles (or however long the batteries will take you).
  
  Make it a toll road with automatic smart passes. Only a few cents per mile and cheaper and less polluting then gas.
  
  And of course, add WiMax so I can surf the internet along the way!

  It's just changing the location of the pollution from the car to the electricity generating plant. Aren't we short of power generating facilities already with brown-outs occurring every time the weather gets hot.

  Because he is obviously an expert on the subject. /hyperbole
  
  "It produces no greenhouse emission"
  
  ...disregarding the fact that only 8 or 9% of the world's total energy production is from sources that don't involve burning things. Carbon footprint anyone?
