Organising a road-trip from London to Brighton to highlight environmental concerns sounds like a contradiction in terms to me. But that's what the Eco-Rally on Saturday 21 June 2008 is -- a mass participation road trip to promote economical and greener driving.
Last time I looked, not driving your car is the greenest thing you can do with your motor. But that wouldn't be a very sexy publicity stunt. The Eco-Rally is being organised by the sustainable transport organisation, Revolve, and I applaud its ideals to get people to drive in a green fashion -- but is organising a mass rally the right way to do it? Education and demonstrations at car events and over the internet are fine, but the organisers are putting more cars on the road while claiming to make people greener. You couldn't make it up.
If you want tips on how to drive in a green fashion without making a pointless journey to find out how, check out our guide here. And if you're a proper petrolhead and aren't ready for that bicycle yet, watch the SmartPlanet video of the Sexy Green Car Show for proof that greener cars aren't always dull cars.

Steady On. The eco rally was an attempt to show case what affordable technologies are out there for normal people with normal wallets. Every car was a real working example rather than a sexy polished brand brought in by low loader. The vehicle tests at the end of the rally confirmed that emissions were a fraction of standard vehicles. There were also pedal vehicles and other forms of transport attending. The point is get people to change their views and habits. It is just not possible to over night stop vehicle use. The previous posting and others are still stuck in the lets "criticise anything" whilst not actually doing other than talking about change. If either of you drive a conventional car you are already comprising your opinion. Do the walk as well as the talk.
Regards
