Volkswagen showed off its fourth-generation fuel cell research vehicle in San Francisco this week. The vehicle, built into Volkswagen's new Tiguan crossover model, uses hydrogen to create electricity, providing power for the car's electric drive motor. It also has a lithium ion battery pack for extra electricity storage. Check out these pics.
A new model, a new platform
The previous two generations of Volkswagen's HyMotion fuel cell research vehicles were built on its Touran minivan platform. Volkswagen is just introducing the Tiguan crossover vehicle this year, and chose to use this new model as a platform for its newest fuel cell technology.
