Ecotricity, the green electricity supplier best known for building high profile wind turbines at sites such as Man City FC, is developing an electric sports car. The firm's hippy-turned-enterpreneur CEO, Dale Vince, says it'll be charged by wind power, capable of 0-60 in four seconds and will have a 150-mile range.
Announcing the plans on his blog, Dale rubbishes the US's Tesla on the grounds that it's two years overdue and experienced problems with its gearbox. He also says his car will be nothing like the "Noddy" electric cars on the road today (a thinly-disguised dig at the G-Wiz).
Dale's working with a team in Norfolk to make the car, which is based on a Lotus Exige and he reckons will be "ready for summer." Details beyond that are hard to come by. An Ecotricity spokesperson told us the project was intended to "prove it can be done, but with the end aim of the car going into manufacture."
If Dale does get an electric Lotus rolling, expect SmartPlanet to be on hand for an early test drive. We're also in the queue for the Lightning, the UK's other much-hyped electric sports car.
