In brief: recycled lanterns, eco events and Saab's 'green' claims

The lanterns are made from the waste and recycled materials

Except for our launch, today's News in Brief is mainly about green car claims, eco events and lovely recycled lanterns.

Recycled garden stuff
Online retailer Ecoutlet has just added some good-looking recycled, colourful lanterns to its garden section. They're made in India from waste metal in aerosol and soda cans and are all unique. With the cheapest one retailing at £17 they're a little dear, though. But they seem to be worth it -- we can't wait for them on lovely summer nights.

Soil Association Easter fun
We can always trust the Soil Association and its Organic Network Farms to come up with some seasonal fun. This Easter there's a variety of events across the country, including organic Easter egg hunts, farm walks and tours and lots of lambs to look at.

Huge green show coming to London
UK Aware is a new green show launching in London's Barbican this coming May. It aims to be a meeting place for consumers and green businesses with a goal of giving shoppers real, myth-free information on sustainable companies and services.

Saab not as green as ad says
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has clamped down on Swedish car brand Saab for its Saab BioPower range advertisement, which says bioethanol "significantly cuts CO2 emissions". The ASA argued that Saab's bioethanol range contributed 30 per cent of the CO2 emissions of petrol or diesel cars, which is still not a "significant cut". Better watch your green claims to fame, car makers.

G-wiz i goes on sale
Electric car company GoinGreen doesn't need to bother trying to look green -- it just is, and now we can actually get our hands on the newest addition to the family, the G-wiz i.

Pinnacle Journey 1.0 2008
Cheap and cheerful -- the Journey hits the value bullseye. And doesn't end up a horrible compromise in doing so.
Mezzo d-10
Too costly, particularly compared to its d-9 sibling. But despite that, this is the state-of-the-art for folding bikes -- fast, light, practical.
Puma Glow Rider
The emperor's new bicycle -- all marketing and no trousers. Over-expensive, handles and folds poorly, doesn't glow well enough, and is stealable despite the weird cable-cum-downtube.
Weleda Edelweiss Sun Lotion SPF 15
It's a very good, honest sun lotion and we appreciate that -- we're excited about Weleda as a company, but not overly so about this particular product
LG 32LG5000
Stylish and with good performance, this is a nice TV, especially at just over £400 -- but the high energy use is a turn off
