Wayne Hemingway intros £58 folding bicycles

There's nothing particularly innovative about the Roadrunner bike from Hemingway Design -- you probably see many similar folding bikes every day. What is surprising, though, is that it costs only £58. For that incredibly low price you also get a pump, pannier rack and some tools to keep it on the road. It comes in a range of great colours, too.

As the site admits, "it’s not the lightest at just over 13kg, there are higher spec and more technologically advanced fold-up bikes on the market but they cost between three and eight times as much as the HD Roadrunner." But for the money it represents a fantastic deal. To keep costs down, the bike is single speed, so it won’t get you up any mountains, but it will certainly get you down to the shops and back.

Currently Hemingway Design doesn’t sell to consumers, focusing instead on selling them in bulk to companies. One of the biggest customers are homebuilders, who give the bikes away with new houses. So, while you can't buy one yet, all you have to do is stump up a few-hundred grand on a house and you'll get a free one.

If there are any managerial types out there reading this, why not get all your staff a Roadrunner this spring to celebrate the weather getting better? You can also nag Wayne and his team by emailing them and suggesting they sell direct to the public -- we know we wouldn't mind a fold-up for this sort of price.

You can glimpse the bike being used in our video interview with Wayne Hemingway here (scroll through to about five minutes in).
