Your phone probably isn't the first place you'd look to in your efforts to go green. Yet the humble mobile is home to a growing number of applications that have an energy-saving or eco theme, from digital cycle maps to portable carbon calculators. I've rounded up six of the latest and greatest.

Mobgas
What: A pocket carbon calculator
The green claim: Keep a carbon diary of your life in real-time. Because you're updating it as you go along, it should be more accurate and you won't be inclined to forget the carbon emissions from that late-night cab home. You can upload and share your results online.
Compatible phones: Various Nokias, Sony Ericssons and a few Windows Mobile phones; Mobgas has a full list
Price: Free
SmartPlanet verdict: An incredibly comprehensive bit of software that could help you identify unexpected carbon misdemeanours in your life. The only drag is that it's almost *too* involved for daily use.

Pinnacle Journey 1.0 2008
Cheap and cheerful -- the Journey hits the value bullseye. And doesn't end up a horrible compromise in doing so.
Mezzo d-10
Too costly, particularly compared to its d-9 sibling. But despite that, this is the state-of-the-art for folding bikes -- fast, light, practical.
Puma Glow Rider
The emperor's new bicycle -- all marketing and no trousers. Over-expensive, handles and folds poorly, doesn't glow well enough, and is stealable despite the weird cable-cum-downtube.
Weleda Edelweiss Sun Lotion SPF 15
It's a very good, honest sun lotion and we appreciate that -- we're excited about Weleda as a company, but not overly so about this particular product
LG 32LG5000
Stylish and with good performance, this is a nice TV, especially at just over £400 -- but the high energy use is a turn off
