Nokia gets recycling with the 3110 Evolve

Nokia is the latest in a long line of companies to "commit" to going green but the mobile phone company has backed up its pledge with a new handset -- the 3110 Evolve -- that has casing composed of 50 per cent 'bio-material' and packaging made from 60 per cent recycled material.

The charger is another area where the handset beats standard mobiles, using 94 per cent less energy than US Energy Star requirements. Nokia, in fact, was the first manufacturer to make phones that told users when they were fully charged, helping cut power loss.

It claims that if people unplugged their phones when they were charged, the power savings worldwide would be enough to power 100,000 average-sized houses.

Last year, Nokia also reduced the size of its packaging by around half, which it saya saved 5,000 truck journeys and 100 million Euros.

At a press conference in Amsterdam, Nokia president and CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said that the company aimed to take a "leading role in increasing environmental awareness."

"We are at the dawn of a new era in mobile communications driven by the rapid convergence of the internet and mobility, and Nokia is setting the pace of change. But with market leadership in an industry of this scale also comes responsibility," said Kallasvuo. Superman couldn't have said it any better.

It's a very good, honest sun lotion and we appreciate that -- we're excited about Weleda as a company, but not overly so about this particular product
