Jacket in and go for a recycled laptop cover

You can find eco-friendly bags everywhere, but when it comes to carrying your laptop it helps to have something a little more sturdy than a hessian sack. Thankfully there are some great green options around.

Act² GreenSmart laptop jackets are an ecofriendly spin-off from the people who make Shoreline laptop cases. Each jacket is made from the remains of 17 PET beverage bottles, with padding that reuses industrial waste and recycled paper tags printed with soy ink.

They come in seven sizes, with a shoulder strap and extra pockets enabling access to the innards while on the go. You can open the laptop on a desk and access the ports without removing the jacket. Each black, blue, or brown jacket costs $40, and sleeves are $25.

GreenSmart bags are just one of the latest options in an ever-greening market of electronics cases. Among the more creative goods are Rebe sleeves (pictured) that dress up a Mac laptop in Pucci-style '70s prints from recycled vintage fabrics. Newshounds might appreciate a shoulder bag made from recycled newspapers.

Targus offers more sober, basic black EcoSmart laptop bags that are PVC-free. TREAD cases made of recycled tires come from Solio, maker of solar-powered iPod chargers, but they're out of stock. Livity sells hemp and recycled PET cases. Or if you're a bit of a crafty kinda greenie, you could make your own laptop cosy with all sorts of materials.

For UK outlets you could try FarmDesigns in London who craft cases from corrugated cardboard and keep an eye out right here. On 10 December we'll be telling you about all the best UK green laptop outlets as part of our Green your Christmas advent calender of treats and tips.

Pinnacle Journey 1.0 2008
Cheap and cheerful -- the Journey hits the value bullseye. And doesn't end up a horrible compromise in doing so.
Mezzo d-10
Too costly, particularly compared to its d-9 sibling. But despite that, this is the state-of-the-art for folding bikes -- fast, light, practical.
Puma Glow Rider
The emperor's new bicycle -- all marketing and no trousers. Over-expensive, handles and folds poorly, doesn't glow well enough, and is stealable despite the weird cable-cum-downtube.
Weleda Edelweiss Sun Lotion SPF 15
It's a very good, honest sun lotion and we appreciate that -- we're excited about Weleda as a company, but not overly so about this particular product
LG 32LG5000
Stylish and with good performance, this is a nice TV, especially at just over £400 -- but the high energy use is a turn off
