Today is the day for vegetarians -- and wannabe vegetarians -- to celebrate the start of the 16th National Vegetarian Week. It's all about creating awareness and showing us meat-eaters that life without steaks and bacon can be an easy and delicious one, too. It's also building on last year's theme, which opened our eyes to the low carbon aspect of vegetarianism.
One of the things we like about Vegetarian Week is that it's also for those of us who aren't able to go the whole hog, so to speak. On the Vegetarian Society's website, we can make vegetarian pledges, which could be anything from, "We pledge not to eat meat for a day" -- which, let's face it, isn't that much of a challenge -- to, "We'll never eat beef ever again".
Aside from veggie pledging, there are also a whole lot of general vegetarian awareness events going on all over the country, such as vegetarian BBQs, tastings and talks. We particularly like the sound of the Special Lush National Vegetarian Week Party in Croydon's Lush store, where you can try out both vegetarian food and body care products. If you want to do your own vegetarian event, you can register it on the Vegetarian Society website to promote it.
If you're planning on celebrating vegetarianism this week, please let us know what you're doing in the comments below!
