What's this whole SmartPlanet thing, eh?

Welcome to SmartPlanet
People News
Channels: People News Tags: competitions

Hello! Thanks for popping along to our new site. You can read our About Us page to get the corporate lowdown on SmartPlanet, but if you're after the personal tour, step this way.

At heart, we're a green news and reviews site. And we're obsessed with one thing: helping you make eco and ethical buying choices and lifestyle decisions. Want to know which is the best electric car to buy, or wondering whether Fairtrade clothes are really worth it? Get the respective answers in our electric car roundup and our interview with Sir Steve Redgrave talking Fairtrade. We also have roundups on the best sustainable London restaurants, the top eco kettles, the finest ethical trainers and more.

Our reviews range across eight different channels, from food, fashion and finance to household, beauty and leisure and on to tech and transport. One of our favourite review features is our compare tool, which you'll find in each review channel on the right. It's the perfect way to see how the Prius fares against its hybrid Lexus and Honda rivals. Or which ethical dress to wear this spring. Or even which bonkers eco table to plump for.

Of course, we know taste is subjective and we're open about how we rate. But we also know you'll sometimes weigh up the environment over human rights -- and vice versa. That's why we really want you to write reviews too. Argue the toss with our expert reviewers, congratulate them when they're right and add to the debate.

If you own a green and ethical product that you love or hate and we haven't got round to yet, why not spread the word? It's easy to add a review of the organic shower gel you used this morning, the Fairtrade chocolate you had yesterday or that green gadget you were bought for Christmas. On top of rewarding conscientious businesses, you'll potentially be rewarding yourself. Each month we pick out the best three reviews and send the authors a bottle of organic champagne.

Last but by no means least for reviews, there's the Green List-- our definitive guide of the best green and ethical products this month (and yep, the Wattson is on there).

That's probably enough to be going on for now, right? If you've not had your fill already, head on over to our homepage for our picks of the day, or go straight to our news and reviews. And, finally, you can meet the SmartPlanet team and find out why people including Friends of the Earth, the Energy Saving Trust, Lush, Katharine Hamnett, UCL, Cafédirect, Fairtrade Foundation, Futerra and author Chris Goodall are advising us.

We've sweated late into the night to bring you this new site, so we hope you like the result.

Let us know what you love, hate and would like to see added to the site by hitting the comments below (or drop us an email).

PS Don't forget you can win eco prizes too, over in our competitions section...
