The Queen has declared the government's commitment to tackling climate change on a global scale, in her annual speech outlining Labour's plans for the next year in parliament. Details were sparse in the admittedly short address, but it's good to hear Brown and co are dedicated to making green changes.
"My government is committed to protecting the environment and to tackling climate change, both at home and abroad," said the Queen, before announcing that she wanted to firm up the UK's obligations to reducing pollution. "A bill will be brought forward to make the United Kingdom the first country in the world to introduce a legally binding framework to reduce carbon dioxide emissions."
As well as these efforts, she also said that the government would encourage more "clean, secure and affordable supplies of energy." She didn't go into details of what exactly these would entail, though. Lastly, although we have a feeling she is only vaguely aware of what it is, she promised an improvement public transport, while also having a go at reducing congestion.
All these points get our vote, but perhaps the Queen herself could do her bit -- by replacing her Bentley with a Prius, or a Smart car, perhaps? She could also get rid of a few of her houses, that would reduce her heating bill somewhat.
