Music festivals are an institution of the British summer season. Maybe it's because we're all trying to distract ourselves from the fact that it's not all that warm or sunny at all... But that's beside the point. We all still go and have a grand old time, so I thought I would take a look at some essentials that eco-conscious festival-goers need to pack. Apart from wellies of course.

If you're still umm-ing and ahh-ing about which festival to go to, check out SmartPlanet's ultimate guide to the UK's green festivals. Or enter our competition to win a pair of free VIP tickets to the Cornbury Music Festival, where carbon-neutral car insurance company, ibuyeco, will be offsetting festival-goers emissions. Read on for my tips on what green folks should pack.

Torch
First up is a torch. The last thing you want to do on a late-night trip to the loo is find yourself standing in it. A Powerplus Nighthawk LED wind-up torch will sort you out, available from Nigel's Eco Store for £15. If it's raining, you might want your torch to be waterproof and be able to float, which is where this torch comes in (£20). Keep in mind that it's solar-powered, so make sure you keep an eye out for those sunny patches before the heavens open.

Pinnacle Journey 1.0 2008
Cheap and cheerful -- the Journey hits the value bullseye. And doesn't end up a horrible compromise in doing so.
Mezzo d-10
Too costly, particularly compared to its d-9 sibling. But despite that, this is the state-of-the-art for folding bikes -- fast, light, practical.
Puma Glow Rider
The emperor's new bicycle -- all marketing and no trousers. Over-expensive, handles and folds poorly, doesn't glow well enough, and is stealable despite the weird cable-cum-downtube.
Weleda Edelweiss Sun Lotion SPF 15
It's a very good, honest sun lotion and we appreciate that -- we're excited about Weleda as a company, but not overly so about this particular product
LG 32LG5000
Stylish and with good performance, this is a nice TV, especially at just over £400 -- but the high energy use is a turn off
