Does this man look rock 'n' roll to you? No? That's probably because Lembit Opik is a Liberal Democrat MP who usually performs at the Houses of Parliament rather than on-stage at a gig. But on 3 June 2008, he'll form part of a support band of politicians led by frontman Johnny 'Razorlight' Borrell to play a gig raising awareness of aviation's impact on climate change.
Other members of the five-strong support band, nick-named The Aviators for the gig, include a cross-party alliance of Tory, Labour and SNP names. The band's star turn -- Johnny aside -- is ex-Runrig keyboard player and SNP MP, Peter Wishart.
The group's performance is, of course, not just for Westminster larks but is part of Friends of the Earth's Big Ask campaign. It's designed to highlight the fact that the government is planning to leave aviation emissions out of the climate change bill due to go into law this year (more on that here).
The gig takes place on 3 June at the Science Museum's Aviation Room in London, though sadly it's invite-only and not open the public. Let's hope a camera-phone recording makes its way onto YouTube so we can all check out Lembit's musical talents.
