With Easter, and spring, right around the corner, we're thinking about sunny deckchairs, free Divine chocolate eggs and the Easter Bunny -- er, the Leaping Bunny logo, that is -- on M&S household and beauty products. Today's news tidbits also include the Eden Project's Sexy Green Car Show, a new eco travel guide and Lush's controversial bath 'bombs'.
M&S products become BUAV approved
Marks & Spencer is in our good books this week, becoming the first major high street retailer to exclusively offer British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) approved household cleaning products and beauty collections which haven't been tested on animals. We can now shop with a clean conscience, choosing from over 1,200 products from lavender laundry liquid through to tea tree face wipes. Look out for BUAV's Leaping Bunny logo on products from April.
FSC deckchairs from Hen and Hammock
Some new deckchairs from Hen and Hammock have already got us looking forward to summer. The frames are made from FSC-certified beech wood in Dorset, so you can lie back and relax, happy in the knowledge that your deckchair frame has come from a sustainable source. The range, made with 100 per cent cotton or polycotton fabrics, in colourful stripy designs, goes on sale later this week. From £55 each, just don't leave them out in the rain.
Sexy Green Car Show at the Eden Project
The Eden Project's Sexy Green Car Show, the world's first eco-friendly motor show, is back for its second year and will run from 22 May until the end of the month. The show aims to educate people on all aspects of green motoring and to show off new green vehicle innovations. Last year's highlights included eco-friendly tractors and Smart's electric car, which we've now reviewed. Rumour has it that this year, visitors may be allowed to get behind the wheel of some of the motors on show, so watch this space for more information.
Ecoescape this Easter
Green Guide has just published Ecoescape (£8.99), a travel guide that combines our two favourite things: holidays and being eco-friendly. The book features reviews, advice, contact details and photos of over 50 of the greenest places to escape to in the UK -- and how to get there without your car. This is the second edition of what's due to become a series, so look out for books on Ireland and the Islands of Britain coming soon.
Free Easter eggs from Ethical Superstore
Ethical Superstore has got over 1,000 free Divine Chocolate Easter eggs to give away to customers who spend £5 or more at its online store. Just place an order and then add the free egg to your basket when you get to the checkout. Make sure you order before 2pm tomorrow to get your delivery in time for Easter.
Lush bath bombs cause controversy
Cosmetics firm Lush is in trouble this week over its decision to sell a bath 'bomb' that dissolves to reveal pictures of Al Jazeera News cameraman Sami Al Haj and Ethiopian British resident Binyam Mohamed -- two men currently being held at Guantanamo Bay. Money raised from the sale of the bombs will go to human rights charity Reprieve. Conservative MP Tobias Ellwood, whose brother was killed in the Bali bombings, described the bath bombs as "tasteless".
