Today we're serving up the latest on World Water Day's Trafalgar Square festivities, Love Eco's bamboo tees and Londoners' views on gas-guzzlers, not to mention green lending and organic hair care from Waitrose.
Waitrose adds organic hair care
Waitrose has extended its organic range to include even more beauty products. For the first time the supermarket's range will also include organic hair care, using only plant-derived, biodegradable cleaners and conditioners that are kind to your hair as well as to the environment. All of the Waitrose organic beauty products have been certified by the Soil Association and are made with at least 70 per cent organic ingredients. With prices starting at £1.99, these could be a hit, though they're not yet on Waitrose's site or on Ocado.
UK green lending up
We're chuffed to say that Ecology Building Society, provider of the UK's first green mortgage, has reported exceptional results for 2007. The Society's green lending effectively doubled in 2007 compared to 2006 and Ecology's ethical savings balances also grew in 2007 with an increase of 10.1 per cent in 2006. We've reviewed the Society's ISA in full.
World Water Day comes to Trafalgar Square
As part of World Water Day, London-based charity Pump Aid is coming to Trafalgar Square this Easter Saturday (22 March). Using various demos, it'll show the work it does with rural communities in Zimbabwe and Malawi -- supporters of Pump Aid will lend a hand and passers-by can join in on a challenge to see how far they can carry a 20 litre bucket of water. World Water Day, a United Nations initiative, aims to increase awareness of the more than one billion people in the world who still don't have access to clean water.
Bamboo Tees
One of our favourite ecotailers, Love Eco, has launched a new range of eco-friendly t-shirts. They're made from bamboo and organic cotton, and come in black, white, green and red. As regular readers will know, we like bamboo, we do -- its main eco cred is that it grows incredibly fast. One tee will set you back £22.
Londoners say no to gas-guzzlers
A new survey by IPSOS-MORI shows that 61 per cent of Londoners support the Mayor's decision to charge £25 for gas-guzzlers driving within the congestion charge zone, with just 29 per cent against it. Better still, 67 per cent of Londoners support the 100 per cent discount for those vehicles that emit the lowest levels of carbon dioxide, with only 21 per cent opposed.

This is crucial - Boris, if he wins, will scrap the 4X4 charge, the Low Emission Zone, the western extention of the Congestion Charge, and will reduce both the size and scope of the central C-Charge. Anyone with an ounce of consideration for the environment, or for the health of people living in London, please DON'T vote Boris - and better still, vote Ken so he can get some of these new measures in.
