Go green at the Bluestone resort this summer

If you choose food, clothes and other products based on their green credentials, then why should holidays be any different? Avoiding unnecessary flights can be difficult, but if you take your holidays in the UK, there are no flights to avoid. Bluestone, a new green holiday resort, is opening this summer in Pembrokeshire.

Slap bang in the middle of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Bluestone consists of 355 lodges, cottages and studios nestled in the woodland, with access to everything from action sports to beauty treatments and spas. What could be better than getting muddy and exhausted by spending a few hours mountain biking, only to come back and relax in a spa?

With on-site facilities including a sports club, orienteering, cycle trails, forest craft lessons and painting and photography classes, this sounds like a summer camp for grown-ups. Kids who do come don't get to visit on-site pubs or go off-road driving and white water rafting, but they -- and everyone else -- can check out 'sister attraction' Blue Lagoon, an indoor water park also opening this summer.

As well as reducing your carbon emissions by cutting out air travel, holidaying at Bluestone has less environmental impact because it's a sustainably designed resort. Much of its energy comes from an on-site bio-mass plant, the water in the lodges is solar-heated and the resort uses local produce whenever possible.

Staying at Bluestone for three days, which is the minimum stay, will set you back £484 for a standard two-bedroom lodge.
