Video: diary of a green snowboarder

Leisure News
Channels: Leisure News Tags: snowboard, Eurostar

SmartPlanet sent intrepid reporter Chris Stevens on a green snowboarding challenge -- to travel from London to the Swiss Alps without stepping foot in a plane or car. Armed with his trusty snowboard, Eurostar tickets and a carefully constructed plan, Chris set off on his eco adventure to find out: can there be such a thing as an ethical snowboarder?

In his unique video diary you can see Chris' picturesque journey to snowboard haven Zermatt and find out what happened when he got trapped by heavy snowfall...and told the only way out was to take a taxi.

Trains rule. I hate waiting 2-3 hours in an airport. Shame you had to use a car though.. just goes to show the planet isn't quite ready for total greenness.

I have to confess, the last time I went boarding was by plane. I did take my solar backpack (the earlier non-recycled version of this, http://www.smartplanet.com/news/fashion/10000234/voltaic-powers-up-its-solar-bags-with-recycled-plastic-bottles.htm). Still, cool as Voltaic's bag is, it was never going to offset the carbon difference between the plane and the train! It's the train for me next time...

Snowboarding is for arrogant failures. It is not green.

I have to take issue, Nytell. Since snowboarding is powered by gravity, I'd suggest that it's about as green a form of transport as you can get. I agree with you on the arrogant failure bit though.

I'm going to have to take the overnight snow train one time. Go to sleep and wake up in the mountains. How good would that be?

Weleda Edelweiss Sun Lotion SPF 15
It's a very good, honest sun lotion and we appreciate that -- we're excited about Weleda as a company, but not overly so about this particular product
LG 32LG5000
Stylish and with good performance, this is a nice TV, especially at just over £400 -- but the high energy use is a turn off
Brompton M3L Folding Bike
This British-made folding bike has small wheels but goes for big money -- and is built for practicality
Dahon Jack 2008 Folding Bike
Bigger wheels do mean better speed and stability -- but a bigger, more awkward folded form, too
Sony Bravia KDL-32V2000
You won't find a better TV for picture in its class, but you will find ones with superior green credentials
