Status Quo rock against the chop in Forest Tour

Tree huggers: the Status Quo line up

Status Quo might have a collective age greater than some of the trees they want to protect, but that won’t stop them from rocking the Forest Tours 2008, an annual series of concerts organised by the government's Forestry Commission.

This will be the second year the legendary rock and roll band have been involved in the Forest Tours. Status Quo rhythm guitarist Rick Parfitt (pictured middle) says "we are really looking forward to playing in the forest. Fans can rest assured they'll be rocking all over the woods!" As well as offering a chance to hear In the Army Now live, the tours support the Forestry Commission's social and economic projects -- which aim to protect and sustain British woodland through grants, education and regeneration schemes. For added greenie kudos, all the Commission's woodlands were given Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) stamp of approval in 1999.

Simon Porter, Status Quo's manager says: "We were aware of the good work the Forestry Commission carries out protecting and managing our wonderful forests. What is great about these shows is that it brings our fans into these unique forest locations."

The band will be playing at Thetford Forest in Suffolk on 7 June, Cannock Chase Forest in Staffordshire on 22 June, The National Arboretum in Gloustershire 27 June and Dalby Forest in North Yorkshire on 28 June. Other acts announced include classical star Katherine Jenkins, and Jools Holland & his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra.

Tickets are £30 and go on sale from 9.00am on 14 December from the ticket hotline 01842 814612 or online from the Forestry Commission.

Very disappointed to see that the Quo are performing in the forests in recognition of 'the Forestry Commissions good work'.

If 'good work' means selling off ancient woodland for housing and bypasses to fill the wallets of greedy developers, then the FC are actually excelling at their duties.

For further information, visit www.friendsofbournewood.org.uk and then sign the e-petition:

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/BourneWood/

The FC continually tell us how they look after the nations woodland and produce policies such as 'Keepers of Time' but then along comes a developer and all their principles go out of the window. The FC are currently abused their accreditation through the FSC, UKWAS and SGS - probably others too!

Pinnacle Journey 1.0 2008
Cheap and cheerful -- the Journey hits the value bullseye. And doesn't end up a horrible compromise in doing so.
Mezzo d-10
Too costly, particularly compared to its d-9 sibling. But despite that, this is the state-of-the-art for folding bikes -- fast, light, practical.
Puma Glow Rider
The emperor's new bicycle -- all marketing and no trousers. Over-expensive, handles and folds poorly, doesn't glow well enough, and is stealable despite the weird cable-cum-downtube.
Weleda Edelweiss Sun Lotion SPF 15
It's a very good, honest sun lotion and we appreciate that -- we're excited about Weleda as a company, but not overly so about this particular product
LG 32LG5000
Stylish and with good performance, this is a nice TV, especially at just over £400 -- but the high energy use is a turn off
