Nouvelle promises 'softer' recycled toilet paper

Nouvelle's latest recycled loo paper
Household News
Channels: Household News Tags: recycled

Got a red bum from going green? Toilet paper maker Nouvelle says it has the solution in the shape of its new recycled loo roll that's "astonishingly soft." Perhaps I need to do some in-depth tests, but I've never found supermarkets' own-brand recycled stuff particularly scratchy. What about you, SmartPlanet people?

Nouvelle does at least have some pedigree -- it's been flogging recycled loo roll since 1989. I've asked for more information on how exactly Nouvelle's made the paper softer, as I have a sneaking suspicion it may involve using more paper. Which obviously wouldn't be so green. You should be able to buy the new Nouvelle Soft in supermarkets now.

If you've had scratchy experiences with recycled loo roll -- I'm thinking anything that reminds you of school toilets -- let me know in the comments.

Also -- any recycled toilet roll brands you recommend? I like the Co-op's FSC-certified stuff and Suma's recycled rolls.

Nouvelle's current paper is a bit on the scratchy side. I shall check out the new stuff with interest when it hits the shops. If it doesn't use more paper as you suspect, I shall buy it to try it out!

My family have never had a problem with Nouvelle recycled loo roll, I can't see what the fuss is about.

If you want to buy recycled toilet paper you probably care about cutting down virgin forest
- according to Ethical Consumer, Georgia Pacific, Nouvelle's owners, also makes toilet tissue from virgin forests for its other loo roll brands -its the main US importer of wood from Indonesia (ie rainforest) - it got a bottom rating from the UK Environment Agency for its environmental management ? it?s also in the oil business. nouvelle is just more greenwash - more on this here www.ethicalconsumer.org/AboutUs/Mediainfo/pressreleases/EthicsLoosoutatGlastonbury.aspx

Pinnacle Journey 1.0 2008
Cheap and cheerful -- the Journey hits the value bullseye. And doesn't end up a horrible compromise in doing so.
Mezzo d-10
Too costly, particularly compared to its d-9 sibling. But despite that, this is the state-of-the-art for folding bikes -- fast, light, practical.
Puma Glow Rider
The emperor's new bicycle -- all marketing and no trousers. Over-expensive, handles and folds poorly, doesn't glow well enough, and is stealable despite the weird cable-cum-downtube.
Weleda Edelweiss Sun Lotion SPF 15
It's a very good, honest sun lotion and we appreciate that -- we're excited about Weleda as a company, but not overly so about this particular product
LG 32LG5000
Stylish and with good performance, this is a nice TV, especially at just over £400 -- but the high energy use is a turn off
