Fairtrade flowers flourishing
Love's gone fair, says Waitrose. The supermarket is reporting a 40 per cent year on year jump in sales for Fairtrade flowers. If you're running behind on Valentine's, you can pick up a dozen Fairtrade Kenyan roses (pictured) for £15 tonight.
Chung does Made
TV presenter Alexa Chung has cooked up a range of ethical jewellery in time for Fairtrade Fortnight 2008. The pendant, bracelet and earrings are (ahem) made by made in Kenya under fair trade conditions. Prices start from £35 and they go on sale 25 Feb.
Hamnett brings ethical fashion to the V&A
One of our favourite ethical fashion designers, Katharine Hamnett, is at the Victoria and Albert Museum tomorrow night for a Q&A on enviroment- and people-friendly clothes. Tickets cost £7.50.
Wattson gets computer rival
The world of gadgets that monitor your electricity is hotting up. So far DIY Kyoto's Wattson has been the only one capable of uploading your eleccie consumption to a computer, but now rival Eco-Eye is planning to do the same -- but wirelessly. It's currently working on the Wi-eye, a USB gizmo that'll plug into your computer, download your usage and allow you to pore over graphs until your eyes water. More as we get it.
North East businesses get rewarded for green efforts
Teeside has celebrated the heroes of its green economy with eight awards for companies with a major environmental or ecological contribution to the region. The awards were the culmination of the Energy & Environment Fair held at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium.
