Scrub and recycle with HomePride's cleaners

HomePride Pride Bath & Shower

HomePride has just launched a bathroom cleaning product called Pride Bath and Shower that is 100 per cent recyclable -- claimed to be the first in the UK.

The packaging is made of 75 per cent recycled cardboard, and the product itself, foam cleaning pads, can be recycled along with other ordinary plastic waste.

The pads contain no nasty chemicals either, so the company claims, making for a greener way to scrub your bathroom clean. They also say that this means the pads are safe for anyone to use, even children -- though in our experience kids tend to be more interested in making bathrooms dirtier, not cleaner.

To help make consumers aware of this, they've put handy instructions on the box, explaining exactly how the packaging and product can be recycled.

"This product is extremely powerful, yet it's totally free of impregnated, often choking cleaning chemicals. Every part of the product and its packaging can be recycled, and we give our customers clear instructions how to do that on the pack itself," says HomePride's managing director, Matt Stockdale.

"No other cleaning product does that -- but we hope it's a trend that will catch on. The more we can help consumers, the better it will be for the environment."

Of course, we think that HomePride should work on producing the pads from recycled plastics, too; because as long as they keep using new material then the product is not sustainable. But this is great news nonetheless, especially if people take that next step and actually recycle the product.
