Espresso minus electricity with Handpresso

Handpresso Wild
Household News
Channels: Household News Tags: green gadgets, energy-saving

Impossible as it may seem, some claim that there are actually places on earth where a Starbucks is nowhere to be found. We think this is an urban legend, but there's a new product that lends credence to the theory. Enter French company Handpresso to make sure you never have to go without your caffeine fix -- even if there's no electricity.

Handpresso's Wild is a portable gadget that can make espresso while camping or anywhere else you don't have the luxury of electricity, because it's operated with a hand pump. Unfortunately it does apparently need hot water, so be sure to carry matches unless you happen to be traveling with a boy scout.

The Handpresso Wild is available from the company's site for 99 euros (£74).

You can also make coffee by putting the ground-up beans in a filter in one of those filter-holder thingies and pouring hot water over it.

If you're desperate, you can also mix the water with the coffee grounds. Gets a bit chewy though.

Pinnacle Journey 1.0 2008
Cheap and cheerful -- the Journey hits the value bullseye. And doesn't end up a horrible compromise in doing so.
Mezzo d-10
Too costly, particularly compared to its d-9 sibling. But despite that, this is the state-of-the-art for folding bikes -- fast, light, practical.
Puma Glow Rider
The emperor's new bicycle -- all marketing and no trousers. Over-expensive, handles and folds poorly, doesn't glow well enough, and is stealable despite the weird cable-cum-downtube.
Weleda Edelweiss Sun Lotion SPF 15
It's a very good, honest sun lotion and we appreciate that -- we're excited about Weleda as a company, but not overly so about this particular product
LG 32LG5000
Stylish and with good performance, this is a nice TV, especially at just over £400 -- but the high energy use is a turn off
