2007 was a bumper year for green products, and furniture was no exception. As well as big names like Warren Evans getting FSC certification for 'good wood', upcoming designers such as Max McMurdo of Reware ended up on prime-time TV auditioning for Dragons Den.
To celebrate the top pieces of the year, we asked five eco-designers to pick their favourite bits of green furniture from the year. The only caveat -- they couldn't pick their own creations. Here's what they chose:
1 Richard Liddle picked Bourne's Luck, the reclaimed wooden chair by Ryan Frank (pictured above). "Ryan's produced a very unique, energy efficient and -- most importantly -- aesthetic design," says Liddle.
2 Michelle Brand picked Burnt Toast Design's Boris (pictured below).
3 Nick Rawcliffe picked David Trubridge's Glide recliner. "I'm taken with all David's products," says Nick.
4 Simon Mount picked Douglas Homer's AfterGlow Armless Double Bench, on sale at Loll Designs. "It's made from 100 per cent recycled HDPE plastic -- most old milk bottles," adds Simon.
5 Max McMurdo picked the A1 Reform chair.

I love the idea of green design and some of the results are great, the only downside is the price of some of it - I've always liked Vivavi's range but £400 for a chair? It's a great start but prices need to come down (at least a bit) so more people buy green furniture and then the mass producers will take note and make green products anyone can afford. Hopefully!

Very true! One *slightly* cheaper eco furniture maker I visited recently and really like is Unto This Last (www.untothislast.co.uk). Not exactly Ikea prices, but pretty comparable with Habitat.

Yeah, I had a look at them a few years ago when looking for a bookcase but had forgotten. When the time comes to move later this year I'll take another look - cheers.
