A wise person once said, "You should buy a good pair of shoes and a good bed, because when you're not in one, you're in the other." Quite, but until now, there have been no green options for bed buyers.
Welsh company Abaca has been making organic mattresses for some time, but they've now gone one better and have launched the first completely organic bed.
"After we launched the original organic mattresses to huge success, our customers began demanding the complete organic sleeping experience," says an Abaca statement. "The result in a deeply organic and luxurious sleeping experience. Organic doesn't get more luxurious than this!"
An organic bed may conjure up images of a pile of hay wrapped in hemp cloth, but these are far from it. The mattresses have 1,000 pocket springs, all sealed up in four layers of organic Welsh wool and another layer of organic cotton.
The frame of the bed is made from sustainable timber and is wrapped in wool and cotton -- also, wherever possible, Abaca has used recycled and biodegradable materials.
We definitely like that an organic bed reduces your exposure (and the environment's!) to nasty substances.
Abaca will make you a bed in a range of sizes, with or without drawers, and will also be releasing a range of headboards early next year. They come with a ten year guarantee and start from £995.
