Christmas is a period of frenzied shopping which, in our opinion, is best avoided. As well as having to struggle through the crowds, it's also hard to find ethically produced gifts that people will enjoy.
Thankfully the WWF has come to the rescue with its online catalogue of gift ideas that will help to conserve rather than consume, appease your friends and family, and keep you out of the festive rush.
For a start, there are 80 different animal adoptions on offer, ranging from £12.50 to £125. All of them come with a colour picture and certificate, and the more expensive ones also come with a cuddly toy of your animal. How about a clown fish for that young niece who was such a fan of Finding Nemo, or a Great White Shark for the nephew?
If your budget is a little bigger, there are some even more interesting choices in the 'extraordinary gifts' section. You could help to protect 9 million acres of the Congo Basin from logging -- a noble gesture that will cost a cool £1,750,000.
Personally, I like the sound of funding investigations into illegal logging on Sumatra. For £12,500, the WWF will follow workers and shipments, checking permits against maps using GPS devices.
But while a loved one may adore a £100 animal adoption, it would take a true environmentalist to resist asking if you still had the receipt for a £1,750,000 gift!
