Fly to the moon with Paperpod's recycled toys

Paperpod Den

Essex-based eco-toy company, Paperpod, is celebrating its third birthday with a pair of new cardboard creations for kids to have fun with. Like Paperpod's other creations, the new 'Den' and 'Brick Pack' are made from recycled and recyclable corrugated cardboard, can be painted and scribbled on (instead of the living-room walls), and are easy to fold up, saving space.

Paul Martin, founder of Paperpod, came up with the idea of making recycled cardboard designs for kids when one Christmas he noticed the kids would rather play with the boxes than the plastic toys they contained. "Children play with faddish, overpriced toys which are soon thrown away, and can damage the environment because of their high plastic content," Martin explains. "We're providing an alternative, where the children learn to assemble and decorate a cardboard product and are rewarded by an inspiring toy or piece of furniture."

While boring grown-ups might marvel at the recycled and creative elements of Paperpod's designs, the kids are fans for other reasons. One girl was impressed with the Paperpod because "I can fit all of my friends inside", and the existing Rocket is popular with little 'uns because, as some have said, "now I can fly to the moon for real". Take a look at the £35 Den and the £30 'Brick Pack' for yourself.

Pinnacle Journey 1.0 2008
Cheap and cheerful -- the Journey hits the value bullseye. And doesn't end up a horrible compromise in doing so.
Mezzo d-10
Too costly, particularly compared to its d-9 sibling. But despite that, this is the state-of-the-art for folding bikes -- fast, light, practical.
Puma Glow Rider
The emperor's new bicycle -- all marketing and no trousers. Over-expensive, handles and folds poorly, doesn't glow well enough, and is stealable despite the weird cable-cum-downtube.
Weleda Edelweiss Sun Lotion SPF 15
It's a very good, honest sun lotion and we appreciate that -- we're excited about Weleda as a company, but not overly so about this particular product
LG 32LG5000
Stylish and with good performance, this is a nice TV, especially at just over £400 -- but the high energy use is a turn off
