In last week's Green Poll we asked you whether air-freighted food should be allowed to carry the Soil Association organic stamp. The results revealed that a majority (42.5 per cent) of you think we should support all organic farmers.
The poll results also confirmed that this is a real dilemma for consumers, surely part of the reason why the Soil Association can't just make a clear-cut decision -- 38.75 per cent of you were in favour of certifying UK organic farmers only.
Only ten per cent felt it was okay for air-freighted organic produce to sport the Soil Association stamp as long as it comes from a developing country, which rather surprised us since the main argument against banning air-freighted organic products is that poor farmers in developing countries will lose out.
If you want your opinion to count, get in touch with the Soil Association before the second round of consultation closes on 30 May, 2008.
