New Covent Garden Market plans open day for locally grown grub

New Covent Garden Market plans an open day for local food producers

London is set to get more locally grown food, if an upcoming conference goes well. An open day at New Covent Garden Market is being heralded as the largest meeting of London food producers in modern times. A trade fair for fair trade, as it were.

Local producers, wholesalers and distributors will descend upon New Covent Garden Market on 6 February 2008 to talk shop and let local chefs and buyers taste their wares. Producers will enjoy a tour around the market to see how everything works, and then, after a “hearty” breakfast, will get to show off their local seasonal ingredients at a bash called Meet-the-Supplier.

The open day is part of a three year project between Covent Garden Market Authority and the South East Development Agency to get more local food on to Londoner’s dinner tables.

The day wraps up with a conference called Share to Supply, run by the English Farming and Food Partnerships (EFFP), which will explain what opportunities exist for getting decent organic food into the hands of paying customers in the capital. Hopefully, the net result for us shoppers will be more farmers markets across London.

I would like to know of a supplier of yams ( not a lot at a time ) I understand they are very good for people suffering from Asbestosis and mesothelioma which is fatal and incurable.I really would be most grateful for this information.
Sincerely, Dorothy Holley, wife of patient

I don't know any suppliers, but Yam is readily available in the Afro Carribian community. Somewhere like Kingsland Market Dalston or Brixton market may be a good starting point.

Weleda Edelweiss Sun Lotion SPF 15
It's a very good, honest sun lotion and we appreciate that -- we're excited about Weleda as a company, but not overly so about this particular product
LG 32LG5000
Stylish and with good performance, this is a nice TV, especially at just over £400 -- but the high energy use is a turn off
